Jazz It Up with Chicago This Mother's Day

Jazz It Up with Chicago This Mother's Day

Come on, baby, won’t you paint the town—and watch Chicago? As a huge fan of this film (and many other musicals), I was pretty miffed when my husband refused to watch it with me. He said that when he walked in and saw Richard Gere dancing and singing while my sister and I were watching it, it was just too much, and he’d never be able to see it.

But come on! “The Cellblock Tango”? John C. Reilly’s best work ever in “Mr. Cellophane”? (Try searching for it now, though, and most of the results you end up with are from Glee, of course.) It’s such a fantastic, not to be missed film! And this was coming from a guy who (admittedly, after I played the soundtrack over and over again) had dreams about Jack Nicholson ice skating to Jesse L. Martin/Tom Collins’s “Santa Fe.”

Ladies and gents, if your significant other will not watch the wonderfulness that is Chicago with you, don’t fret. I’ll watch it with you. In fact, I propose we all do that this Mother’s Day, along with any other jazzy or musical numbers that we’re often told make us geeky by association. I may just start with Rent and work my way across my musical shelf. After all, they are all getting pretty dusty…
